An Owner-Occupancy Requirement is a form of anti-speculation measure. During the purchase of a property, the buyer commits to living in the property for a certain period. This prevents properties from being bought and then rented out.
Municipalities where the owner-occupancy requirement has been implemented usually enforce a term between three and five years. As of April 1, 2022, the owner-occupancy requirement has also been introduced in Amsterdam for existing properties with a specific maximum WOZ value. The buyer must occupy the purchased property for a minimum period of four years.
